JUST IN... an emerging Florida fashion designer Hermione is taking the stage, and we have the inside scoop! We wanted to know what's it like to do what she does, how she sets herself apart within the fashion industry, and last but not least what unique styles she has created. Follow along as we dive right in to the interview with her.
FF: Hello, Hermione and thank you for allowing us entry into the life and style of Hermione design.
Hermione: No problem at all the pleasure is all mine.
FF: Okay, first how did you get started?
Hermione: I grew up in a very creative family and have been interested in fashion since I was a little girl. I lived with my Uncle who is a tailor and have spent countless hours in his studio picking up fabric scraps and turning them into skirts and dresses for myself, and my dolls. From there, my interest grew well into my high school years where there I took several art courses and began to participate in fashion shows.
FF: So fashion isn't something you decided to just try out one day to see if it fits you.
Hermione: No, and although I wanted to be a designer my kind nature led me into the medical field. For a while I was making my own scrubs, and over time began to make my own dresses and gowns. That's when I realized that I needed to follow my dream and just do what I love and became a designer.
FF: I think for most of us, happens this way. So from there where did this decision take you.
Hermione: Well, I began to reach out to family and friends first, and eventually God placed the right people in my life, and now I have a great team while being able to do what I love. I am truly blessed!
FF: That's awesome, and it doesn't get more satisfying than that.
FF: Is there a certain number, category, or classification when it comes to designing? And where are you in all this?
Hermione: Oh, there most certainly is. When it comes to designing each and every designer has an specialty or special ethnic type that they are good at. For instance some designers specialize in special occasion gowns like say Vera Wang or Alfred Angelo. Some are well known for their specialty in lace, or their beading detail. Others are of expertise maybe Lycra, or swim wear. Others, do casual dress and or suiting. So yes there is definitely things that separate you in the design world. I see myself in between since I've made mostly everything from casual wear, haute couture gowns, and some special lace pieces. I haven't set any particular focus on swimwear though. I have made a few before for myself but now designated line or custom piece for any clients.
FF: Maybe once I get my abs inline I can be your protege (laugh).
FF: With a ton of controversial issues, where do you see fashion?
Hermione: (Laugh) Oh' gee' what's fashion without a little controversy. I personally don't pay attention to or give my energy to industry gossip with the good, the bad, and the ugly of it.
FF: What are the influences? Is this impact a negative or positive one for the future of fashion?
Hermione: See through fashion is trending right now, and I hate that its influencing our youth, its giving the impression that its okay to walk around naked basically which isn't a societal norm. They have taken to walking around like this as something regular, and that is a very negative reflection on the fashion industry.
FF: I would agree, and say I see some truth in that. I also, think there is a who that is also setting this trend you have celebrities who make it apart of their everyday dress, as well as at popular event such as the award shows, and such where these are their signature outfits, and the youth is watching, and they idolize these people.
FF: Thanks for sharing your stand point.
FF: Music and fashion feed off of each other in various ways, they are almost nearly one in the same. There is what's called main stream and underground is this also true for fashion?
Hermione: Its precisely true with fashion. Take dark apparel for instance, with skulls and accessories for example. These particularly were associated with Gothic and mysterious substances but, fashion has taken to it and embraces it as look and has created a co-culture for it in itself. Leather, smokey eyes, and skull print dresses and T-shirts are now something of popularity in fashion and worn by celebrities.
FF: This is true, with show's taking off like Son's of Anarchy and TWD, those things are in trend and sell.
FF: Tell us, do you think music has shaped fashion or is it vice versa?
Hermione: Oh gosh, I will defintely say its vice versa. Fashion shaped music; I believe that designers are always going to need the right music for the right collection. I'm pretty sure we won't see a Haute Couture gown in a hip/hop or rap video (laugh). I'm actually currently working on a new flower inspired collection. Till this very day I haven't found the right song for it. I want something where the collection will just flow with the song.
FF: Okay, this will be our last question of the interview.
Hermione: Shoot...
FF: what are some of the distinct qualities or features about your service?
Hermione: Oh, I thought your were going to ask me something difficult (laugh). Well, as a custom designer I get the customers exactly what they want. I use my skills and bring their idea's to life. When it comes to my collection, I design in a unique way to be worn more than one way. My jumpsuits, they usually come with a removable wrap skirt, so you can go from the office to girls night out in five seconds.
FF: well that's all we have for now Hermione, and again thanks for much for this time.
Hermione: Oh your welcome, it was my pleasure.
